Wet and Wild: water quality in the Matanuska

Have you ever wondered who is taking the pulse of stream water quality in the Matanuska Watershed?  It isn’t the state, or a non-profit – it’s Chickaloon Native Village!  They have been monitoring water temperature, pH, and other basic information since 2015.  Kendra Zamzow, an environmental chemist and the Environmental Program Manager for the Village will discuss the types of streams that are being monitored, why, and some of the results.  She will also talk about winter monitoring – streams that are still running, operating a field meter in freezing weather, and plenty of winter stream scenes.
